What happens next, and how long each part takes

We read it, then pass it on
Your request goes to one licensed, insured contractor covering your town — not to five companies. Usually within minutes during business hours, and first thing the next morning if you send it overnight.

They call you
The contractor calls you directly, normally the same business day. For a genuine emergency that is usually within the hour. We are not on that call and we do not price your job.

You deal with them
Quoting, scheduling, permits, the work and the warranty are all theirs. If you never hear from them, tell us — that is the single most useful thing you can report, and it decides who we keep sending work to.
Worth having ready
Four things that make the first call shorter
None of these are required and you should not delay sending a request to gather them. But an electrician who knows these before they arrive gives you a far more accurate first number.
- The year the house was built. It predicts the problem better than size or price does. It is on your deed, your tax bill, or the county assessor site.
- A photo of the open panel door. The label inside gives the service size and the brand. Photograph it — do not remove the cover, which is the part that is genuinely dangerous.
- What is actually happening, in your words. “The kitchen breaker trips when the microwave and kettle run together” is far more useful than “electrical problem”. Trade vocabulary is not needed.
- Whether anything was recently added. A hot tub, an EV, a finished basement, a new range. Most capacity problems arrive with a new load rather than a fault.

- Smoke, flame, or a smell you cannot locate
- Leave the house and call 911. An electrician is the call after that one, not before it.
- The power is out on your whole street
- That is an outage, not a fault, and an electrician cannot fix it. Report it to your utility — and note that St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Naperville are not ComEd towns:

- Electrical work needs the owner’s authorisation, so start with your landlord or management company. We match homeowners.
- You want to check a permit or a licence
- Illinois licenses electrical contractors municipally, so verification runs through your village or city building department — not through a state register and not through us. Every town page here lists its permit office.
