What we do, and what we deliberately do not
Most home services websites are vague about what they actually are. We would rather be specific, because the distinction changes who is responsible for what if something goes wrong.
What KilowattBros is
A matching service. You tell us what electrical work you need and where you are. We pass that to an independent, licensed, insured electrical contractor who covers your town. They call you, you talk price and timing directly with them, and you decide.
What KilowattBros is not
We are not an electrical contractor. We hold no electrical license, employ no electricians, and perform no electrical work. We do not price your job, do not mark up the contractor’s quote, and are not a party to your agreement with them. Licensing, insurance, pricing, scheduling, permits, warranty, and workmanship are entirely the contractor’s responsibility.
Who pays
The contractor pays us, and only when a request becomes booked work. You are never charged. This matters more than it sounds: if we were paid per lead regardless of outcome, our incentive would be volume. Being paid on booked work means sending you a contractor who cannot do your job costs us money.
Your request goes to one contractor
Not five. Shared-lead marketplaces sell the same enquiry to multiple contractors, which is why submitting a form on those sites produces a burst of phone calls within minutes. We do not do that. It is worse for you, and it is worse for the contractor, who ends up pricing against four people who got the same email.
What we publish, and why we are careful about it
Every cost figure on this site is a range with the variables named, never a single number, because we have not seen your house and a single number would read as a quote. We do not publish permit fees, because they change and are frequently scaled to project value — we link you to your building department instead.
We do not display invented reviews, fabricated job counts, or stock photos captioned as our contractor’s work. There is a real temptation in this industry to manufacture trust signals. A young business with honest ones converts worse right up until somebody checks.
Where we cover
16 towns across the Chicago northwest suburbs and Fox Valley. Each has its own page with that town’s permit authority, electric utility, and housing history, because those genuinely differ — four of the towns we cover are not even on ComEd.

Fair questions
So you are not electricians?
Correct. We do not perform electrical work, hold an electrical contractor license, or supervise projects. We connect homeowners with independent contractors who do. Any site that blurs this line is worth being careful with.
Why is it free for me?
Because the contractor pays, not you. Contractors spend money to find customers one way or another — advertising, shared-lead platforms, or a service like this. We only get paid when a request turns into real booked work, which aligns our interest with sending you someone who can actually do the job.
How is this different from Angi or Thumbtack?
Those platforms typically sell the same request to several contractors, who then all call you. We send your request to one contractor covering your town. You get one phone call instead of five, and the contractor is not competing on speed-of-dialling.
What if I do not like the contractor?
You are under no obligation at any point. Nothing is agreed until you agree it directly with the contractor. Tell us it did not work out and we will note it — that feedback is genuinely useful to us, because we only work with a small number of contractors.
How many contractors do you work with?
A small number, deliberately. We would rather cover a real service area with contractors who can actually reach it than claim statewide coverage we cannot deliver on. If we cannot cover your job, we will say so rather than pass you to someone two hours away.
